The Faculty of Law of the University of Medan Area (FH UMA) expressed its high appreciation for the collaboration between the North Sumatra Regional Police and the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI) Medan in the implementation of the Special Education for the Advocate Profession (PKPA) which took place at the Pancasila Building, Education Quality Assurance Center (BPMP) of North Sumatra Province, Jalan Bunga Raya, Asam Kumbang, Medan, Monday (2/6/2025).

The activity, which was attended by 35 personnel from various units within the North Sumatra Regional Police, such as the Legal Affairs Division, the Research Directorate, and representatives of the police’s legal section, lasted for five days and aimed to improve legal understanding in an applied and professional manner.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Medan Area University, Dr. M. Citra Ramadhan, SH, MH, who was present in person at the event, said that this collaboration is a concrete form of improving the quality of human resources in the legal field, while also reflecting the spirit of partnership between educational institutions and law enforcement officers.

“In this era of digital transformation and highly dynamic legal developments, educational institutions like the UMA Faculty of Law have a strategic role in supporting the Indonesian National Police (Polri) in responding to increasingly complex legal challenges,” said Dr. Citra.

He emphasized the importance of establishing collaborative spaces such as PKPA as a forum for exchanging knowledge and experience, as well as strengthening legal perspectives based on justice, transparency, and respect for human rights.

“We at the UMA Faculty of Law greatly appreciate the steps taken by the North Sumatra Regional Police and the Medan Indonesian Association of Indonesian Professional Associations (PERADI) in opening this academic and professional space. We believe that police personnel equipped with strong legal knowledge will be crucial in building public trust in law enforcement institutions,” he added.

Dr. Citra also hopes that the synergy between the academic world, the legal profession, and law enforcement agencies will continue and develop in the form of training, scientific discussions, and collaborative research that benefits the wider community.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief of the North Sumatra Regional Police, Brigadier General Rony Samtana Tarigan, said that the PKPA activity was part of the strategy to increase the legal capacity of Polri personnel.

“This activity not only broadens our knowledge but also shapes the character of Polri personnel to be professional, possess integrity, and capable of being reliable legal advisors, both inside and outside the court,” he said.

Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dr. Hinca Panjaitan, also supported this initiative by emphasizing the need for the Indonesian National Police to become agents of legal awareness among the public, as well as the importance of understanding the substance of future changes to the Criminal Procedure Code.

The Chairman of the Medan DPC PERADI, Dr. Azwir Agus, also appreciated this collaboration as a strategic step to create a Police that is knowledgeable about the law and able to carry out its functions professionally and humanely.

With this activity, the UMA Faculty of Law affirms its commitment to continue being part of national legal development, both through academic and professional channels, as well as cross-institutional collaboration.
