The Master of Management Study Program of Medan Area University (UMA) held a Public Lecture and International Community Service activity in collaboration with Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) on Monday, July 28, 2025 at the UMA Postgraduate Doctoral Building.

The event was opened with remarks by Dr. Dedi Sahputra, S.Sos., MA., Vice Rector for Quality, Human Resources, and Economics of Medan Area University representing the Rector of UMA. The following remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Retna Astuti K., MS., Director of Postgraduate Studies at UMA, and from UUM by Dr. Asma Binti Mat (Chair of INASIS Tradewinds) and Shalini Raj A/P Mohan Raj (Director of the East Meets East: Tradewinds International Mobility Outbound Program).

Also giving a speech was Dr. M. Akbar Siregar, M.Si, Secretary of the Agus Salim Hajj Education Foundation and Lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business. In his speech, he expressed his appreciation for this collaborative initiative and hoped that the international collaboration between UMA and UUM would not stop at the management field alone, but could be expanded towards the development of science and science (Science Development) as part of a broader academic contribution.

The public lecture, titled “Digital Leap for Small Businesses by Opening Global Markets with Smart Marketing,” aimed to equip MSMEs with strategies and knowledge in utilizing digital marketing to penetrate the global market. The event was hosted by Zarina Alfandari, S.Psi., Master of Ceremonies, who is also the Head of Public Relations at UMA and actively participates in UMA activities.

This activity also featured a Guest Lecture session featuring academics from UMA and UUM, namely:

Prof. Dr. Syafrida Hafni Sahir, SE, M.Si. – Lecturer in the Master of Management Program at UMA

Dr. Amiruddin Ahmad Malindo – School of Education, Universiti Utara Malaysia

Dr. Adelina Lubis, SE, M.Si. – Head of the UMA Master of Management Study Program

Dr. Asma Binti Mat – School of Applied Psychology, Social Work & Policy, UUM

As a form of community service, an International Community Services event titled “Digital Branding of Cultural Heritage through Empowerment of Cultural Communities in Indonesia and Malaysia through Digital Technology” was also held. This activity aims to strengthen cultural heritage preservation in both countries through a collaborative and innovative digital approach.

This collaboration is a concrete step by UMA in expanding its international network and strengthening the role of higher education in the sustainable development of society and science in the digital era.
