UMA’s Commitment to Supporting and Implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Universitas Medan Area (UMA) consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to supporting and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a foundation for sustainable development within its campus environment. Various programs and policies carried out by UMA are designed to align with the SDGs, covering campus governance, infrastructure, and academic activities. UMA’s active participation in UI GreenMetric and the establishment of a GreenMetric management team directly supervised by the Rector and led by the Dean of the Faculty of Biology serve as clear evidence of the institution’s seriousness in executing sustainability initiatives in a structured and measurable manner.
In practice, the UMA GreenMetric team is divided into six divisions: Environmental Management & Infrastructure, Energy & Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, and Education & Research. Each division plays a strategic role in ensuring that sustainability practices are effectively implemented, from environmental management, energy efficiency, emission reduction, and water conservation to waste management and the strengthening of sustainability-oriented education and research. This approach shows that UMA not only supports sustainability in principle but also takes concrete actions to build an environmentally responsible and sustainable campus.
In 2024, UMA reinforced its commitment by participating in the THE Impact Ranking as part of its contribution to global SDGs indicators. To this day, UMA continues to enhance governance, education, and research that generate positive social and environmental impacts. Through these efforts, UMA is determined to provide real contributions to sustainable development at both local and international levels, while actively supporting the creation of a greener, more inclusive, and sustainable future.
