In commemoration of Earth Day 2025 with the theme “Everyday is Earth Day” , Medan Area University (UMA) showed its concern for environmental preservation by participating in activities held by the Indonesian Green Culture Foundation on Sunday, April 27, 2025, on the banks of the Belutu River, Sei Rampah District, Serdang Bedagai Regency.
As a tangible form of support, UMA donated 4,000 early-maturing sugar palm seedlings to be planted as part of an effort to restore the river ecosystem and support the area’s reforestation program. Dian Fajar Prayoga, S.Kom., Head of the UMA Information, Promotion, and Cooperation Bureau (BIPK), expressed his pride in UMA’s involvement in this activity. He emphasized that this action reflects the university’s commitment to sustainability.

“Medan Area University appreciates the handover of 4,000 early-maturing aren seedlings in commemoration of Earth Day 2025. This is not just a ceremony, but a concrete manifestation of our academic contribution to supporting environmental sustainability,” said Dian.

Dian further explained that UMA’s participation is part of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the areas of community service and sustainable development. He emphasized that as a leading university, UMA has a responsibility to actively participate in environmental conservation efforts and raise environmental awareness within the community.

This event involved various stakeholders, including the general public, local governments, and environmental communities. Through the tree-planting initiative, it is hoped that it will have a positive, sustainable impact on the earth.

The theme “Every Day is Earth Day” adopted for this year’s commemoration serves as a reminder of the importance of making environmental protection a part of everyday life, not just during commemorations. Through this active participation, Medan Area University reaffirms its role as an educational institution that prioritizes academic excellence while simultaneously committing to sustainable development and environmental well-being.
