Medan Area University (UMA) officially established a partnership with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of North Sumatra Province through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 13, 2025, on the UMA campus. This collaboration aims to strengthen preventive and combative measures against drug abuse, both within the academic environment and the general public. The event was attended by representatives from each institution.
At the event, UMA was represented by the Head of the Information, Promotion, and Partnership Bureau, while the North Sumatra National Narcotics Agency (BNN) was represented directly by the Head of the North Sumatra BNN, Drs. Toga Habinsaran Panjaitan. This MoU demonstrates the synergy between higher education institutions and law enforcement agencies to create a healthy and drug-free educational ecosystem.

In his remarks, Drs. Toga Habinsaran Panjaitan emphasized that universities play a vital role in shaping the character of the younger generation and acting as the vanguard in educating the public about the dangers of drugs. He expressed his hope that this collaboration would strengthen drug prevention through educational activities, research, and empowerment programs.

The scope of this collaboration includes seminars, education, and outreach involving the UMA academic community, including students, lecturers, and educational staff. Through this partnership, it is hoped that collective awareness of the threat of drugs will grow among academics and the wider community.

The event concluded with a group photo session and a brief discussion on strategic steps for implementing future collaboration. The signing of this MoU is expected to be the first step in strengthening the ongoing partnership between UMA and the North Sumatra BNN in supporting drug eradication.
