The Universitas Medan Area, in collaboration with the North Sumatra branch of Jasa Raharja as part of its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, conducted a tree planting activity at the university’s Forest Park on Friday, December 22, 2023.

This tree-planting initiative is part of Jasa Raharja’s TJSL program, following the directive from the Ministry of SOEs to focus on three areas: Education, Environment, and MSME Development. It is hoped that planting these fruit trees will bring positive impacts to the environment and the surrounding community.

The types of fruit-bearing trees planted are two varieties: 150 Damar trees and Gaharu trees. This support is part of a state-owned enterprise (SOE) program for sustainable development, aimed at providing social and environmental benefits to the community.

Jasa Raharja, as a state-owned enterprise (SOE) responsible for providing basic protection to traffic accident victims, is not only focused on carrying out its primary duties. Additionally, Jasa Raharja also contributes to addressing social and environmental issues.

The Rector stated that planting trees helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, thereby lowering global warming. The Rector also mentioned that UMA is the only private university in North Sumatra with a sustainable campus forest that is home to various types of trees. Moreover, UMA is ranked in the GreenMetric ranking.

“This tree planting helps reduce the impact of global warming and absorb air pollution, which is expected to be beneficial in the future,” said the Rector.
