The Rector of Universitas Medan Area (UMA), Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan, M.Eng., M.Sc., participated in the “National Workshop on UI GreenMetric 2024 and Sustainable Environmental Management” at the Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) on May 29-30.
The workshop was attended by at least 112 representatives from 50 academic and vocational higher education institutions across Indonesia, collaborating to advance environmental sustainability in universities. The event opened with a captivating traditional Dayak dance from Kalimantan, which received enthusiastic applause from participants and invited guests.
Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, MM, M.Sc., Chairperson of UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, emphasized the vital role of universities in creating a greener environment. During the keynote speech session, participants listened to insights from two prominent figures in the fields of sustainability and education. One of them was Prof. Ir. Mohammed Ali Berawi, MEng, Sc, PhD, who serves as the Deputy for Green and Digital Transformation at the IKN Authority, discussing the ongoing green transformation in the Nusantara Capital.

On the first day, the event included a symbolic tree planting ceremony, demonstrating the participants’ genuine commitment to environmental preservation. The second day was filled with an educational visit to the Nusantara Capital in the Sepaku area of PPU.
It was an honor for UMA to be invited to this event, especially since UMA is one of the universities in North Sumatra that is involved in the Green Campus program.
During this occasion, presentations were made regarding UI GreenMetric 2024, including training on filling out the UI GreenMetric questionnaire and a national seminar discussing issues related to sustainable environmental management in higher education institutions.
With the participation of the Rector of UMA in this event, it is hoped that information regarding Green Campus and sustainable environmental management can be gathered and implemented at the university that the Kuningan community takes pride in.
Hopefully, this event will provide valuable insights into sustainable environmental management and the Green Campus initiative that can be implemented at our beloved university. It requires the involvement and support of all parties so that our aspirations can be realized and effectively executed.
