The Community Service Team (PKM) from Universitas Medan Area, led by Dr. Sayuti Rahman, ST, M.Kom, Head of the Research, Community Service, and International Publication Center (P3MPI), has launched an agricultural modernization program in Lubuk Cuik Village. This program aims to assist local chili farmers in improving productivity and efficiency through the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology. One of the innovations implemented is a smart camera capable of automatically classifying chili leaf diseases.

During this program, the PKM Team provided training to farmers on using IoT devices equipped with sensors and smart cameras. The camera monitors chili plant conditions in real-time and detects early signs of leaf disease. The data collected is then processed by the system to offer treatment recommendations, such as the appropriate use of pesticides. This technology not only reduces the risk of crop failure but also helps farmers optimize chemical use more efficiently.

The response from the farming community in Lubuk Cuik Village has been very positive. They feel supported by the technology, which simplifies plant monitoring and enables faster decision-making.

Dr. Sayuti Rahman stated that this program will continue with intensive support to ensure successful implementation. It is hoped that the adoption of smart farming can serve as a model for sustainable modern agriculture while also enhancing the welfare of farmers in the village.
