Exciting news has come from the Faculty of Science and Technology (SAINTEK) at the University of Medan Area (UMA). Two of their students have won the 2025 Orangutan Care Scholarship, a prestigious program in conservation and the environment.

The students are:

Evi Novia Hutabarat (NPM 228700022)

Jerriski Mariando Carlos (NPM 228700021)

The Orangutan Care Scholarship is a program awarded to students who demonstrate a strong commitment and concern for the conservation of orangutans and their habitat. The program is organized by the Sumatran Orangutan Lestari Foundation – Orangutan Information Center (YOSL-OIC) in collaboration with the Orangutan Republik Foundation (OURF). The scholarship aims to foster a young generation actively involved in conservation and research efforts for Indonesia’s endemic species, particularly orangutans, whose populations are currently increasingly threatened.

The Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, UMA, expressed his pride and congratulations to Evi and Jerriski for their achievements.

“We truly appreciate the achievements of these two students. This achievement proves that SAINTEK students not only excel academically but also have a strong concern for the environment. We hope that in the future, more students will be motivated to achieve similar successes and bring honor to the faculty and university,” he said.

Furthermore, he added that full support will continue to be given to students who excel in any field, including the environment and conservation.

“We will continue to support every student’s potential and interests, whether in academics, research, or community service. Ultimately, UMA’s SAINTEK graduates are expected to possess competence, character, and a real contribution to the nation,” he added.

This scholarship not only covers tuition and research costs but also provides recipients with the opportunity to undertake a field internship in an orangutan conservation program in North Sumatra. This allows students to apply their knowledge directly in the field and broaden their understanding of ecology and current environmental issues.

Evi and Jerriski’s achievements inspire other students to continue their work and achieve excellence. The Faculty of Science and Technology at UMA hopes that these two students’ efforts will be a positive start in developing the next generation who care about the environment and are ready to become agents of change in society.

Congratulations to Evi Novia Hutabarat and Jerriski Mariando Carlos. Continue to create, inspire, and bring honor to the Faculty of Science and Technology, Medan Area University, both nationally and internationally.
